Doorknob!

On our way out of NY State, we were fortunate enought to come across a gas station that was open. It took almost an hour before we were able to fill up, even though we were already infront of a pump. It was a bit crazy with everyone walking up to the pumps (even though it is pay before you pump) and trying to fill their gas cans for their chainsaws and generators. There was a minute (or five) where I thought I was going to be in the middle of a mob scene. However, I wasn't as frightened as when I saw this man, filling up his gas can in the back of his truck and then lighting a cigarette. This could have been the last thing I ever saw! Idiot!!

What's new in Liberty Village

The Balzac Coffe Shop has recently opened, and there are some new benches around too.

NUTS!

Snow Day

All this snow accumulated in a short amount of time, apparently it was the worst storm since 1870, and of course we were there to witness it. These pictures were taking en route back to Toronto. Most of the streetlights were out since last night, and it seems that people don't treat those intersections as fourway stops like we do.

Friday the 13th Aftermath

Because of the heavy snow, and the fact that the trees still had most of their leaves on them. The weight of the snow snapped powerlines and toppled trees all over Western New York. We were fortunate to get out of the area before they declaired the driving ban. The power went out last night at our hotel just after 10pm and it seems that 400,000 will be without electricity until at least next Tuesday. We were in and out of NY State in under 24 hours.

October 12th - Lake Effect Snow

Another short trip to the Buffalo area proved to be a mistake. I didn't quite know what lake effect snow was until around 3pm when it started snowing. The temperature dropped enough that I had to go buy a pair of shoes, crocs were not appropriate for this weather.
